How Generation-Z Impacts Modern Day SEO

The generations these days that co-exist are more dynamic and different from each other than ever. Today we talk about Generation-Z, commonly known as Gen-Z or Zoomers. These days, marketing professionals have to take these factors into account because a generalized approach doesn’t work anymore, and many companies and businesses have products that they need to sell to all age groups.

A customized marketing approach to keep everyone interested in their specific products and services is the ideal way to go forward. So how do Zoomers differ from everyone else?

Zoomers are the people who were born in the bracket of the mid to late ’90s and early 2000s. Gen-Z has the clump of people who were born and raised in the internet generation. They have more and free exposure to the world because of it too.

These young people generally have dynamic personalities and short attention spans. This attention span makes it very important to make marketing tactics digestible and bite-sized for these audiences to gravitate towards them.

When it comes to age groups, early Zoomers are now well into their mid-twenties. It is not even about the age they are in particular. The pace at which the world moves now makes it essential for marketing professionals to constantly adapt and be on the lookout for new changes.

Zoomers are the first generation to be introduced to modern technology and the internet. Because of that, they have grown into the modern age more seamlessly rather than being born into it.

Zoomers Interacting with Marketing

This cohort of people is very different and flexible when it comes to the concept of brand loyalty. The way Gen-Z interacts with the market creates new challenges for marketers. From Zoomers, brand loyalty must be earned.

They are very driven by their personal values and look for the same kind of reflection from the brands they choose to endorse. It is not just the resistance to loyalty that creates challenges; it is also the fact that these people are very difficult to engage.

Digitally, consumers are smothered with advertising on every medium and app they don’t want to pay a premium for (which is many apps!). Out of this sea of ads, they only pick something that makes a direct impact on them in 8 seconds. This is something that marketers can use as a strategy and develop ideas to make engaging advertisements.

Gen-Z and Search Engine Behavior

With all the facts in mind, it’s important to remember that this generation is adept with search engines. This is also why they are less susceptible to targeted ads than they are to search engines. They like to search for what they are looking for and are good at it.

Search engines outdate the entire generation, actually. The first search engine was introduced in 1990. This is also why they have such adaptability towards search engines.

They have adapted to search engines in a way where they are the more likely group of people to look for things using long-tail keywords. This is something that makes it difficult for SEO Marketing experts to do their job well. But once you can think like the target market, you can actually have a more profound realization of the kind of keyword phrases you should be looking for.

Mobile usage is also a significant factor that must be taken into account. Often, people just use the voice search feature, and that has its own ways of working in a marketer’s favor when done correctly.

Gen-Z is very well versed with search tools and knows their way around a SERP to be able to weed through the things they don’t like and find precisely what they’re looking for. This also means that combined with their affinity against brand loyalty means that they are less likely to go for a big brand’s website or be interested in the advertised links on Google.

This makes it very important for marketers to pay attention to SEO even more since Zoomers are a big chunk. They are young people with flavorful taste in brands and recently, money to spend.

SEO or Google Ads – what to choose according to your business

For a business owner, online marketing has always proven to be a daunting task. One of the primary reasons behind this stress is the involvement of money and effort that goes into online marketing. If you are well aware of the digital marketing industry, then you might know that there are two major ways by which you can bring conversions to your business. These are Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Google Ads.

Each of these methods is no doubt productive when it comes to boosting visibility and sales. However, the application of these methods varies from business to business. As compared to SEO, running a Google Ads campaign requires a good amount of money. Thus, for a business that is doing well in terms of sales, Google Ads is a better option than SEO because they can afford to let go of a few dollars in exchange for visibility.

To better understand the difference between SEO and Google Ads, let’s dig a little deeper into the basics of these strategies.

What is SEO?

To be frank, most of us scroll through only those links that appear on the first page of Google when we put in a search term. Thus, if your website does not fall on this first page, then you are probably missing out on good profits for your business. This is where SEO comes into the picture.

In layman’s terms, Search Engine Optimization is the steps you take on your website to make it rank higher on the Search Engine Result Page (SERP). Having the right content with relevant keywords, linking other sites to your website, optimizing your page title, making your site mobile-friendly are some of the steps that can catapult your website on the first page of Google.

Improving your organic ranking is not something you can achieve in a day. This is a long process that might take weeks. However, once your website reaches the first page of the search engine, then there is no stopping your business from reaching new heights of success. Moreover, customers tend to trust a website more which achieves a higher ranking on its own.

What are Google Ads?

Google Ads is a type of pay-per-click (PPC) advertising that displays your ad on Google whenever someone searches for your relevant keyword. You are charged a particular amount every time someone clicks on your advertisement.

Google Ads is one of the quickest ways for getting business as people tend to click more on the top three ad positions on Google. Here, you have the freedom to decide the max CPC (cost-per-click), which enables you to set a budget for your advertising campaign in advance.

The price of your product will also matter if you wish to go for Google Ads. In order to make a profit, it is necessary for you to ensure that your products are priced much higher than your CPC. For example, if you are selling a t-shirt for $10 and you are paying $8 every time someone clicks on your advertisement, then the net profit would be too low. However, if the product cost is $5000 and you are getting one conversion after every ten clicks, then you are spending $80 and making $5000 which is highly profitable.

Which marketing strategy is best suited for your business – SEO or PPC?

Now that we have discussed the basics of search engine optimization and Google Ads, let us understand which strategy will get results for your business.

SEO is something that will help you in the long run. Once you get proper knowledge of your demographics, target audience and keywords, increasing your website rankings organically will be a cakewalk for you. This is a long-term investment that will yield positive results after some time.

As for Google Ads, it is better for businesses that need quick results and does not have a lot of time to spare on optimizing their website. As a matter of fact, you can run a Google Ads campaign even if you don’t have a website as you can create a stand-alone customized landing page that highlights a particular service or product you wish to promote.

Doing this also gives you a good amount of time to build your own website without having to worry about the conversions. Once your website is fully functional, you will have two choices – stop the ad campaign and get started with SEO or implement both these strategies simultaneously for better results.

Conclusion

Whether you should opt for SEO or Google Ads will depend entirely on the current situation of your business, the market situation and your goals. The key is to choose the right marketing strategy at the right time that will keep your business afloat and running without any difficulty.

If ever you feel that making this decision is tasking, you can always find a good digital marketing agency that will guide you on the right path. A good SEO expert will always be able to tell what would work best for your business – organic search paid search or a combination of both.

The Future of SEO

Search Engine Optimization has been the most dominant way of getting ahead in business in these modern times. The process involves making your website and content search engine friendly by employing many techniques and tricks.

It also requires accurate tracking and redesigning of plans according to results. It requires professionals to do well, which is why SEO marketing has been a leading service provided by IT companies and professionals.

Since the beginning of this game, people who have been here tending to stick to the old traditional methods say good On-Page SEO, more backlinks, and keyword density will directly result in better rankings.

If that were the case, the job of an SEO professional would be strictly laborious. However, good SEO in these fast-changing times requires more than just hard labor in front of the screen.

So what is precisely changing about these fast-changing times?

The digital/online world is getting more and more linked with each other, turning into this interwoven web or a cluster of all things. This includes Social Media, human behavior, various technological platforms, machine learning and AI, and increasing sector professionals.

The art of giving the customer more than precisely what they are looking for is getting better and bigger with each passing day. So what does that mean for the SEO pros?

It merely means that they must adapt and get updated with the new trends and techniques that impact the SERPs. In a nutshell, they need to…

  • Get a better understanding of their target audience
  • Understand website optimization furthermore
  • Research the perfect combination of text and images that speak to the audience
  • Monitor user experience and continuously look to improve it

SEO now factors everything. If a website cannot firmly put across its brand message in any way, it will have problems marketing whatever it is they have to sell. No more is SEO, just keyword-based.

SEO’s future depends on understanding customer wants, and the customer wants fast loading websites that deliver exactly the content they are looking for. Search engines now have the means to understand and separate the websites that offer quality.

The future of SEO will incorporate the need for understanding what humans would search for. This means that the SEO pros have to think like their target audience, regardless of gender, age, or any other demographic. Let’s discuss some of the trends that professionals must follow to make their SEO applications more effective in the future.

1. More Attention to Search Intent and User

Search intent is different from trending keywords in a particular niche. This point is nothing new. The whole goal of SEO is to connect users and businesses using search engines, and that can only be done by keeping search queries in mind.

But with time, search intent changes dynamically, and it is essential to stay up-to-date with all the latest trends. It also depends on the search engine in particular. For example, people go on Google to find answers to specific questions and learn things. So it becomes more critical to approach SEO, so the SERPs are answering potential user’s answers with your client’s links.

2. Focus on Analytics and Data Retention

SEO is changing and evolving constantly. It has become more about an overall user-friendly experience from being only about driving traffic to a specific website. Google no longer shows only website links in results. It serves to the user, a complete experience that is instant, and sometimes doesn’t even require them to leave Google.

This pushes the need for keyword-rich content on the back seat and makes behavioral analytics an essential commodity. It is all about reverse engineering their search engine experience and accordingly making marketing strategies. This could be achieved by working with the sales and support staff, for example, since they receive realistic queries on the phone all the time.

3. Optimizing Brand SERPs

A brand’s SERP is one of the most critical areas where optimization can be beneficial. It is a great commodity to put forward the brand’s overall message, mission, style, etc. using one keyword phrase, i.e. the brand name itself. It is like a digital version of a business card, but only more elaborate.

Google has more knowledge about your brand than you might think. A brand SERP is where the best of what Google qualifies as credible content is featured. This includes all the high-quality links, your YouTube channel, important information, top-rated pictures etc. Search engines’ growing artificial intellect is making, focusing on the entity more critical than driving traffic to a website.

A brand’s SERP will be the first interaction that a user has with the brand or business even more than a website. This makes optimizing it even more critical.

4. Mobile-Friendly SEO is the Way to Go!

The handy mobile phones that everyone has in this day and age have been the primary medium for conducting search engine queries for many years now. SEO pros need to make sure that all of their client’s content is optimized for mobile phones. It is easy to forget about mobile phones when all the work is done on laptops and computers. Carefully, you must make sure that the mobile versions and desktop versions of a website aren’t too different to maintain consistency of the medium.

5. Publish More Long-Form Content

According to Google’s E-A-T guidelines (Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness), page quality will be a highly determining factor for them to be rated higher. Try to publish as much long-format content as possible. Pack it with keywords, images, and wherever possible, backlinks. Blogs over 2000 words that provide well documented, accurate information will have more chance to keep the user engaged for more extended periods. According to research, blogs less than 1000 words have continuously been outperformed by longer blogs, and it is expected for the trend to be increased with time.

Conclusion

In conclusion, SEO cannot be dealt with the same traditional methods that have been around since 2009. The internet world is growing and evolving exponentially, and professional SEO service providers must develop with it. This ongoing growth makes it a friendlier and more fluent experience for the end-user and the brands; it is just a matter for the middlemen to adapt and make their lives even more comfortable.

Link Building in SEO

Search Engine Optimization, abbreviated as SEO is the process of boosting a website’s presence on the World Wide Web by improving their Google search result rankings. Google search result rankings are the placement of a website’s result after someone looks up a specific keyword.

Let us see an example. Consider your website is called xyz.com and you sell mobile covers in Hyderabad when someone searches for “mobile covers in Hyderabad” your website should show up in the search results. If your website shows up 7th on the list, for example, your Google ranking for the keyword “mobile covers in Hyderabad” is 7.

Improving these rankings makes your business more noticeable and makes customers highly likely to buy your product, avail your service, or give you that website traffic.

Link Building in SEO1

There are many ways to make your website SEO friendly. It all starts at your website, optimizing it and fixing bugs that can hamper your website’s pages being picked up by Google’s and other search engine’s algorithms, which are constantly changing and evolving.

There are many other vital steps in the process of SEO. One of these important steps is Link Building.

The basic idea of link building is to place links on the World Wide Web that take a user back to your website. This is done by meticulously placing links on third party sites, for example, by hyperlinking keywords to your website on related topic blogs on various blog hosting websites amongst many others.

These back-links are always going to be a relevant way of practicing high-grade SEO for your website, regardless of how many changes the Google algorithms go through.

Backlinks

Like most things on the internet, link building can be done the right or the wrong way. The best way to build links in the healthiest way possible is to do it naturally. This means earning links, rather than buying them. For the long-term viability of your business, you must engage in natural link-building only.

The easy and the wrong way is called black-hat SEO where you can buy links and use manipulative tactics to get the links out there. This tactic can get your website banned from the internet, which is why you want to stay away from these.

Why is Link Building Important for SEO?

As mentioned above, Link Building is one of those methods which are going to be ever gold if you want your website to perform better on the internet. You must build high-quality links, especially in today’s online climate, where quality is everything.

A note from Google says, “In general, webmasters can improve the rank of their sites by increasing the number of high-quality sites that link to their pages”. Here are the essentials to keep in mind when Link Building is concerned.

• High-quality websites, with authority and trust of linking pages.
• Proper and engaging anchor text for incoming links.
• SEO and content optimization for both the respective sites.

Link Building Important for SEO

Strategies and Tips for Simple Link Building

The idea is to get higher ranking for the keywords you’re targeting by getting external websites hosting content similar or related to your product and services, back to your website. There are many strategies that one can employ.

Here are a few Strategies for Link Building:

Blogs, Articles, & Press Releases – The phrase “content is king” is used so much in the digital marketing profession for a reason. High-quality engaging content is the perfect way to pepper-up your customers before they get to your website.

Your customers are already warm towards your product or service if they’ve been reading a related blog or article. The best thing they can find throughout the blog is keywords linking them to your website, where they can avail of the said product or service!

Reviews & Mentions-  When your product or service is mentioned or reviewed by a reputed website, it gives your brand image, an air of legitimacy in the eyes of your customer. This psychology works for almost every business that has a market of consumers buying products and services.

Review websites are gold mines for back-linking your website. If the said reviewer has a large influence on the market, half your job is done right there.

Links form Friends and Family-  When your circle of friends, family, and partners share and link to your site it will increase the magnitude of your presence online. Links from sites and pages that have relevance to your niche will be way more effective than random websites hosting your links.

The Easy & Free Way- Internal Link Building

One underrated way to get your website’s search result rankings up is by employing this super easy method that you have total control over. Internal link building is a method where you inter-link pages in your domain.

To do this, you can make new pages with blogs and other forms of engaging content that redirects people to product pages, or your website’s home page, etc. Since it is under your domain only, you can do it for free!

Here are a few pointers to keep in mind:

• Anchor text of your hyper-links has to be relevant. Anchor texts work best when they are not related to your brand, your company name, or anything unique. They work best when they are keywords that catch people’s attention straight away.

• The page that you’re hosting this content on, has to be of high quality. Google and other search engines will rank these pages higher, only if they are safe, trusted, and of high quality with relevant content.

• It is very important to establish variety when you’re linking pages. Many times when people work on internal linking, they’ll just link keywords to their homepage. This makes it very difficult for other pages of relevance to achieve any ranking.

In conclusion, this has been a fair introduction to the basic tactics and strategies of Link Building. If you are about to start your own link building campaign, one important thing to keep in mind is, THINK ABOUT QUALITY; Quality of web pages that you’re linking to, quality of anchor words, hosting websites, everything.

It is exceedingly difficult to build links that take a user to low quality, under valuable pages. But if you’re working with share-worthy content, link building feels more successful and is much more fun to do!

For Example info: amazon.in would give you information on Amazon India website.

Define:

One of the simplest yet vital functions in Google Advanced Search, the define: function shows definitions of a specific phrase or word.

But in any case, one has to keep on adhering to these requirements in order to survive on the first page. When it comes to getting into the details behind SERP rankings, you have to understand that there is no secret formula that will put you on the top of the page. Dedication, creativity, resourcefulness, and perseverance are the only things that will guarantee success. However, to make it easy for you, we have listed certain steps that you can take to improve your Google ranking:

1. Track and understand the Google ranking algorithm: Google executives have confirmed that Google algorithms keep on changing constantly and only a few of those changes are made public. Moreover, the frequency of these changes is around 500 to 600 per year! This shows that these changing search algorithms are one of the biggest hurdles for SEO.  If you wish to succeed in the field of SEO, then you have to have a detailed understanding of these algorithms. There are a few resources that could help in this case. Check out Moz’s Google Algorithm Change HistoryGoogle Webmaster Central and The Webmaster. These tools will offer you an in-depth understanding of new algorithms and will allow you to plan your strategy accordingly.

2. Identify the issue on your website: If you wish to reach on the first page of Google, you need to know where your website stands currently. Start by checking your site’s keyword ranking by using different tools like SERPs.com to assess your rank. The speed at which your site loads also plays a vital role in your ranking because everybody hates a site that takes too long to open. You can do the speed test of your site by using the following tools – Google PageSpeed Insights, WebPageTest or Website Analytics Audit. Once this is done, check your website’s general health in categories like the blacklist, mail server, web server, and DNS. This will give you a brief idea about the areas where you need to improve.

3. Ensure a mobile-friendly website: According to Google, “… our crawling, indexing, and ranking systems have typically used the desktop version of a page’s content… Mobile-first indexing means that we’ll use the mobile version of the page for indexing and ranking…” This means that you need to have a mobile-friendly website which the user could find useful. Ensure that your visitor is able to do the basic tasks on your site in an effortless manner while using his mobile. Also, make sure that your website fits the screen of the mobile and takes less time to load.

4. Do keyword research: Keyword research is the most essential element of any SEO strategy. If you don’t understand the importance of keywords, then you cannot go far in your online business. Identify the keywords which your target audience uses to find your website. You can use Google Keyword Planner to help you out in this case. Detailed keyword research also offers you some important information about your target audience and allows you to write content accordingly. Using long-tail keywords is also a prime necessity if you wish to succeed. Besides this, spy on your competitors who are ranking ahead of you on the SERP and try to understand which keywords they use. This will give you a rough idea about their strategy and will help you to devise your own as well.

5. Fix broken links: Many businesses have a habit of ignoring broken links.  This can create some serious issues and will have a negative impact on the user experience as well. Since both internal, as well as external links, can have a huge influence on your Google ranking, it is mandatory that you take the help of tools like W3C Link Checker to spot the 404 error and fix them.

Captions for visuals – appropriate enhancement for your graphical content

Captions for Visuals

What is the first thing you notice when you look at a photo? Is it the photo itself or the caption that is written below it? According to a study, most people tend to look at the photos and then at the captions after which they decide whether or not the story is worth reading. Having said this, the importance of a caption cannot be sidelined because it gives the viewers brief information about that image which is otherwise missing from it. Captioning an image is important in every field and that includes marketplaces as well. The Enhanced Brand Content on Amazon is a feature that allows you to put enhanced images and content about your product. If a seller fails to convey the exact details about that product in its caption, then the customer would find it difficult to understand about that product and might just skip to some different seller leading to your decline in sales.

Following are a few tips which can help you easily understand the process of captioning for image enhancement:

1. Write nothing but the truth: This is one of the basic steps that you can follow while captioning any image. If the content is not authentic, then the image is bound to lose credibility which can adversely affect your brand image as well. So before captioning any image, always ensure that everything you mention in the caption is accurate and authentic. In case you are unsure about the text, it is better to leave the image without any caption rather than writing something about which you have no clue. For example, in the image given below, mention the free voucher only if it is still valid. If the customer finds out that the validity has expired, then it might negatively affect your business.

2. Describe what cannot be deduced from the image: If your caption describes the things that are already visible in the photo, then the caption becomes useless.  For example, if you are a seller who is selling an office chair and you have advertised the image given below with the caption – “Comfortable and useful office chair” then it becomes quite useless because it is pretty evident from the image that it is an office chair. However, if you caption it – “ Ergonomic office chair with push back mechanism and height adjustment” then the customer would understand that this chair offers other features as well which cannot be deduced from the image.

3. Write according to your target audience: If you are writing for a specific audience, then utilize the jargon which that the audience uses. For instance, if you are selling children’s toys, then your image caption should contain funky and playful words so that the children can understand it without any difficulty. Kindly refer to the example given below:

4. Ask questions: To increase the reader engagement, keep asking questions along with your images. These questions can be open-ended, yes/no questions, etc. Doing this encourages the reader to comment on your photo, especially if you are advertising on a social media platform. And with increased engagement, the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) of your site also improves which results in increased sales. National Geographic’s Instagram page is one of the best when it comes to user engagement.

Ask questions

It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words. Images are a great medium to communicate with people when it comes to building your brand and hence it becomes of paramount importance to enhance these images and caption them appropriately. Science admits that brain processes images faster than any other type of data. Thus, if you are looking for an ideal way to communicate with your customers, then graphical content is the best option to do so. Just follow the above-mentioned tips and you will notice a significant increase in your sales and productivity.

Voice search – the future feature for your website

Voice Search Optimisation

How do you feel when you use Google Now, Apple Siri or Windows Cortana voice search? Don’t you feel like you are using some super-advanced technology from the future that allows you to do a lot of things on your phone without having the need to touch it? In today’s world, natural language processing and voice search have advanced a lot and things have become very smooth. When it was first introduced in 2010, a user would literally have to call Google and then verbally enter the keywords after which he would receive a link that would take him to the result page of the relevant keywords. Companies have spent a lot of time and money over the years to perfect their voice recognition system and implement it on various devices. While most of these ‘digital assistants’ are used in smartphones, other devices such as speakers, cameras and even cars have started adopting this technology. This technology will gain even more ground over the next few years and will become an indispensable part of human life. Thus, it has become quite important for a business to improvise its website so that it can be equipped with voice search technology.

Below is a list of some easy ways which can help you do the Voice Search:

1. List your business online: Getting the business listed online in the business directories is very imperative for local businesses. This move prepares your website for voice search and allows the users to have a look at your website. Most of the users execute the voice search through Google Assistant or Siri, but the problem is that these assistants are not able to display the search results for local businesses. But what they do show is the online business listing on which you have listed your business. Thus, you can see how important it is to get your business listed online.

2. Optimize for ‘Near Me’ search: Consider that a person sitting at home inputs the voice command “Where can I buy a jacket near me?”. If you own a clothing store and your business does not show on his search, then you are bound to lose a potential customer. According to research conducted by Google, “50% of consumers who conducted a local search on their smartphone visited a store within a day and 34% who searched on computer/tablet did the same”. This shows that the ranking of your business in local search has a direct impact on your store traffic. Optimizing your website for local search will ensure that more users are able to see that you exist in the vicinity and will be able to take your services.

3. Make use of long-tail keywords: Whenever a user makes a voice search, it is generally more detailed. “Near me” searches are easy to determine and hence show quick results, however the long search strings which users input verbally are often not considered by a business. Long-tail keywords ensure better results in voice-powered searches because they have less competition, a lower bid for ranking and perform better on semantic search parameters.

4. Keep your website mobile-friendly: Since most of the users make use of their smartphones while operating voice assistants, it is necessary to keep your website mobile-friendly. Apart from this, most of the searches happen on the go which implies that people have less time to scroll through your website. Hence you must make sure that your website takes less time to load as every 1-second delay can bring down the conversion rate by 7%. Try to feature some interesting content along with short videos on your website which would help the visitor to find what they are looking for from your business.

5. Optimize your website for featured snippets: A ‘featured snippet’ includes a summary of the answer, extracted from a webpage, plus a link to the page, the page title, and URL. This is an advanced Google SERP feature that gives a direct answer to the user and hence has many benefits. It helps to generate more organic traffic and makes your website more dominant than your competitors. In addition to this, the device reads the snippet back to the user whenever answering a search query in voice.

Recent technological progress has shown that voice search is the future of human-machine interaction. It has already set its foot into our daily life and will continue to become more intelligent, accurate and responsive. Thus, if you wish to sail in the same boat with the current technology and make progress then you need to adapt accordingly and modify your website with the voice search.

Websites that host quality and informative content have high chances of getting bookmarked, which positively affects the SEO ranking. In addition to this, you must also ensure that the content is original as duplicate and repetitive content tends to harm the page ranking.
